Home Office Project Update #2

Oh my gosh... I can't believe it took me six months to progress with the home office project I have been trying build. Anyways, as I have mentioned in the first post about this Home Office Empire here and the last update here, I am trying to build, I was waiting for the Black Friday sale to get myself a Canon MX700 multifunction printer. Well, it was worth the wait because after Thanksgiving, I got the printer for only $99. =) Great deal from the original $170 pricetag!

And then during the Thanksgiving sale, I also found a nice, sturdy and awesomely cheap printer table/filing cabinet. Since it was the last piece at Staples, I got it for only $30! There you go... I saved money waiting for this big sale and it was definitely worth the wait!

Now, I need to find a trustee, heavy-duty shredder for all those paper kalat I've accumulated the past year. =) Just watch out for my next update on my home office empire. Yeah... getting there!

Homesickness Strikes Back

I was in Las Vegas last weekend and the usual trip to Sin City will never be complete if we don't pass by our favorite Filipino restaurants such as Jollibee, Red Ribbon, Goldilocks and Chowking. Yeah, that's how deprived we are here in Phoenix. We don't have those stores except for Barrio Fiesta and a single Red Ribbon store somewhere south of Phoenix which is an hour drive from my place. So obviously, I did some panic buying of all those Pinoy goodies just to satisfy my homesickness cravings.

Picture above is my Red Ribbon ensaimada that I ate for lunch. I also bought a dozen of red ribbon mamon, a dozen of frozen siopao from Chowking and 4 big cups of taho. I know that it's very pricey to buy these pinoy goodies here in the US but I don't really care about the price when I am already homesick and wanted to get a taste of home. Ayyy... pathetic! Hoookay... these pinoy stores is one of the reasons why I wanted to move to Vegas. Haha.

Become Debt-Free

Here in the US, it is very easy to acquire so much debt. A lot of merchants and stores here offer very tempting discounts for their products to lure customers into buying them. And I hate to admit it but they are really tempting to let go even if those items are not really what a person needs. Seeing 50%, 60% up to 80% discounts posted on the store windows are the not so new advertising style of these establishments so they can get more buyers in their stores.

Although personally, I hate the feeling of owing something especially money to other people, sometimes it's just inevitable especially with this bad economy. I have seen some families go through so much problems with debts. It must be very stressful and frustrating not to be able to pay-off debt to your creditors. Sometimes those creditors even harrass those people who cannot pay their debt and I guess it must be a very scary experience for them.

ClearDebt is a company that offers IVA or Individual Voluntary Arrangement. It is a binding agreement between the debtor and the creditor to avoid bankruptcy. ClearDebt prides itself for being able to cut people's debts, freeze interests that the debtors pay, stop creditors' legal actions against the debtor and they also give free debt advice. You can apply for your IVA Application online through the ClearDebt website. What else could be a better gift for new year than being debt free?!

Of Ballet Flats And Winter Boots

I went out at lunch to buy some nice boots to wear in Vegas tomorrow because my friend told me that it's going to be cold there. And so I went to DSW (Designer Shoes Warehouse) at Bell Road which is just a couple of miles away from my office. Now, guess what I bought from the store?

Yup... I didn't find any great winter boots and so I ended up buying these super dooper comfy ballet flats from Dr. Scholl. I am so loving these flats! They're super soft and comfy inside. I am a new Dr. Scholl's fan!

This is not the first time this happened... I mean, I am set to buy something and then I go home bringing something else. Hehe. Back in Helsinki, a friend and I went shopping for summer clothes because we were going on a vacation to Rome and Paris which was at the peak of summer. Guess what we bought after that shopping day? We each bought 2 jackets! Geez?! Yeah, summer clothes it is! So yeah, I really can't be trusted when it comes to shopping. When I like something and I can afford it, I will surely have it. Haha.

Snow in Las Vegas Strip

For the past few days, when the special friend calls me, he would tell me that it's snowing in Las Vegas. I never believed him because he always jokes around about a lot of stuff. And if it does snow in Vegas, definitely not on the Strip where his office is just close by. Boy I was wrong!

Photo above was taken yesterday at the big Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. After seeing the news last night, I had second thoughts of moving to Las Vegas. I still hate/despise/abhor snow! My friends and I are supposed to go to Vegas tomorrow. I am worried that Kimi might not be able to handle being driven in snow since 1)he's an RWD, 2)he's using ultra high performance summer tires, 3)I am not willing to risk destroying his rims if I use chains. So yeah, I'm still thinking if I'm going or not. I am praying for a warmer and sunnier weather today and tomorrow. Hayyy...

Securing Your Email

Email has been a part of my life since I have learned how to use the internet. It is one of the most efficient and fastest methods of communication nowadays. Working in IT means constant communication with my team and my clients. Almost always, we use emails to communicate and document conversations because it is the most available and convenient way to do it. I check my emails every couple of minutes within the day and I seriously cannot imagine my life without emails.

Anything that we send through the internet is susceptible to attacks from hackers and those people who want to steal information. Even emails are not exempted from these attacks so I guess we should put importance to our email security. Most of the big companies and organizations invest on enforced data protection for their emails because sensitive data are often transmitted through their emails. PGP Universal Gateway Email provides a means for these companies to highly enforce data protection through email encryption. This solution follow email standards so it can support most common messaging protocols like POP, IMAP, SMTP, SMTPS, etc. and widely used email servers such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Lotus Domino Server and Stalker Communigate. This solution also provides secure webmail using PGP Universal Web Messenger. PGP Universal Gateway Email can definitely help organizations to minimize the risk of data breach and enforce security and privacy.

Christmas is in the Air

Someone's not wishing for a white Christmas this year. Haha. I never liked snow. Ever!!! Photo was taken last weekend at the union square in downtown San Francisco during my short weekend getaway. There was a huge Christmas tree in the middle of the square where a man-made ice skating rink was also set-up. Christmas is really in the air in San Francisco. Even the shopping malls around the square is well lit with Christmas lights and decors. Now, where do I want to spend Christmas this year? Hmmm...

Tactical Knives

Last year, a close family friend from San Francisco came home to the Philippines for a vacation. This family friend is my mom's bestfriend way back when they were still kids and she has 4 boys of which the eldest are twins and are around my age. Their whole family spent most of their time visiting several places in Luzon and one of their stops was Batangas. Funny thing was when they were on their way back to the US, these guys brought with them so much balisong, otherwise known as a native pocket knives which Batangas is known for. There were more than 2 dozens of those pocket knives that they wanted to bring back to the US as gifts but too bad the airport security didn't allow them to smuggle it to the US. Now you have an idea where I got my smuggling skills. Haha.

Tactical knives are very useful for critical incidents when you're working as a Law Enforcer, in EMS or Special Operations. Although our family friend are not really serving in the military or in the line of service, I am sure they will have great use for these tactical knives. Quality 5.11 Tactical Knives are available at the LA Police Gear website at very affordable prices plus they are now offering free shipping! I'm sure that if these family friends of ours have known about this website, they wouldn't have gone through the hassles they've gone through when they were in the Philippines. Hehe.

And then these microSD cards, I think I got them for $10 for the the 2GB microSD and around $15 for the 4GB microSD. New SD cards for my Nokia phones. Now I can start downloading and installing lots of stuff on my phone. Hayyy... techie people.

Thanksgiving Goodies Part 1

This is my second thanksgiving here in the US and I guess, the best part of thanksgiving is the shopping sale the next day, otherwise known as Black Friday. For this year, I spent thanksgiving here in Arizona with my friends in Chandler and Gilbert area. We woke up at 4AM and started shopping at around 5AM. First stop was Walmart and then Bestbuy and then OfficeMax. These Americans are crazy! Who said there is an economic instability here in the US when everybody at those stores went berserk doing shopping... and I would say, it was panic buying!

One of the goodies I got was my Smallville Seasons 1, 3 and 6 dvds. They were originally priced at 42.99 from Bestbuy but I got them at $15/season on sale! Hehe. I knew it was a great buy! Now, I am a homebody slacking around my apartment marathoning these dvds. Hehe.

Sedona Flashback

I have mentioned in my post about Vegas down here in my blog that I think Sedona's rock formation is far better. Now, let me show you photos of Sedona from my last trip there during the end of summer.

Do you believe me now? These photos are the reason why I want to own a house in Sedona. FYI, it's one of the most expensive areas to live here in Arizona. Who wouldn't want a house in Sedona if that's the view you'll see in your backyard? Haha.

Personal Masseuse

I was planning to build my home office empire this Black Friday after thanksgiving because I am sure that there will be great discounted prices of electronics on that day. While browsing online, something made me reconsider building my home office empire. Guess what? I found a massage chair from the Takemi Select website and I want one for myself. I love back massages so I'm sure this office chair masseuse will be a great accessory for my home office empire. If this is my work chair, I'm sure I will be working longer hours. Haha.

Other Side of Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known to be the sin city. I know that whenever you hear Vegas, you're probably thinking about casinos, 5-star hotels, nightclubs, showgirls, etc. Last weekend when I went to Vegas, the special friend brought me to a place that's far from the Vegas that I have in mind. Out of the blue, he drove his car and took me to the Red Rock Canyon. So obviously, I was not dressed for hiking nor anything related to doing a nature trip. Oh yeah, we went down the rocky tracks in my heels! Geez! This is one of the reasons why I hate surprises! I might not be dressed right for the occasion. Haha. Anyways, here are some photos of Red Rock Canyon. Well, I think Sedona here in Arizona still looks far more awesome but who would have thought you can find a nature park in Vegas right?

Did you know that Monounsaturated Fatty Acids or MUFAs is the healthy kind of fat that can be useful for losing weight and transform you body? MUFAs five major categories are the following:

Barcelona Anyone?

A friend and I have been talking about doing a tour of Spain and France sometime next year. For the record, I have been planning to visit Barcelona for the last 2 years and it never materialized because of unavoidable circumstances. In 2007, I had to stay in Manila to wait for my US visa to be processed and at the same time I moved to the US around october of the same year. This year, I have been busy with my client here in Arizona while doing my weekend getaways to San Francisco, LA, Las Vegas, San Diego and Temecula. I also had to go back home to the Philippines last month. For the last two years, I've been drooling over these photos of Barcelona so I have decided that this should not go on and I have to see Barcelona next year.

Photos courtesy of www.tripadvisor.com.

I miss Europe badly. I miss the slower paced and laidback life there. I am really looking forward to seeing Barcelona, Madrid and Paris next year. Want to join me in backpacking in Europe? Err... I might have a problem making everything fit on a backpack though. Haha. Talk about someone who does not know how to pack light. Hahaha.

Operation Mojo Premiere

Nat & Alex from Nickelodeon's "The Naked Brothers Band" will have a live chat next Saturday, November 22 for their new premier, the Operation Mojo. These two cute and talented kids are on their third season of the Nickelodeon series. These cute and talented young boys make great music too! Nat Wolff is the band's lead singer and songwriter. Alex is Nat's younger brother who plays the keyboard for the band and also writes songs. Operation MoJo premieres on November 22 at 8:00 PM Eastern time at the Nickelodeon channel.

Young adults nowadays are moving forward to making great music. I have noticed a lot of the younger generation creating big hits from their music career and it’s just amazing that they are already drawn to making the most out of their talent at an early age. These young stars inspire the younger generation to strive and do their best in whatever endeavor they want to do in their life may it be a hobby or a talent. I guess parents should continue encouraging and supporting their kids on these things. Of course studies should still come first.

By the way, did you know that the producers and director of this Nickelodeon hit show are the real-life parents of Nat and Alex? Now, that’s what I call a real family bonding experience. Again, don’t forget the live chat of Nat & Alex on November 22.
